Pssst.... Want to buy some tomatoes? Istanbul Style

pssst-want-to-buy-some-tomatoes
A cold, crisp sunny morning and Istanbul’s some 350 open-air, covered, permanent or bi-weekly street markets (pazar) are gearing up for another day’s brisk trading.

At least, that’s what all the stall holders are hoping, anyway. As the punters begin pushing their way through the often narrow streets or alleyways of the markets, such as Kadıköy’s famous “Balık Pazarı,” cries of “Buyurun!” -- variously (mis-)understood as “Come in!” or even “Help yourself!” -- or the popular “Hoşgeldiniz!” -- “Welcome!” -- punctuate their passage and add to the general cacophony that is the soundtrack of any public space in Turkey and most assuredly, in İstanbul.

Pssst.... Got cookies?

thin mints
Erica Lucke Dean is having Girl Scout cookies withdrawal.

"Has the world ended and I didn’t get the memo?

I mean…it’s less than a week until March and I haven’t seen a single Girl Scout selling cookies. Isn’t it about that time? Has my internal clock reset itself? I distinctly feel the unshakeable craving for a line of Thin Mints, fresh from the freezer."

Somebody tell her it'll be ok...

Pssst.... PST for joint pain.. For Animals?

DrJohnfacesmall
Dr. Farherty is a licensed Animal Chiropractor practicing in the Asheville, NC region. In this Pssst Post he speaks about PST which stands for Pulsed Signal Therapy. Doc' Farerty describes how this technology has been used extensively on humans and is now available for dogs, cats, and other small animals. It is a therapy that significantly helps joint pain, joint and muscle tenderness, painful motion, joint inflammation and helps improve mobility, sleep and general activities of daily living (paraphrased from pstvet brochure).

Not only is this article interesting for how this technology may help animals, but also for us humans if we'd never heard of this technology for us too.

Pssst.... Got any hot books?

new+books
PublishProfits.com Brings you the latest news and info on the publishing industry, new books, authors, and more… This blog entry speaks to what and how book publishers "have adopted a new tactic: scouting for literary talent. Scouts go to the United States and Europe and use their connections to be the first to discover which books are being written, which are about to be published, when, and by whom. The scouts then relay this information to the publishing houses with which they work, and the publishing houses use this information to obtain the translating rights to the next best-seller."

This looks to be a great perspective on what bool publishers and writters alike have to expect in the competitive world of book publishing.

Pssst.... It's called railroading.

railroad
Dana is a baby boomer who loves vintage modern design and the creative men & women behind it. Today she blogs about the last fabric term "railroading". The term refers to the direction of a fabric nap or design as it was woven at the mill.  Usually the nap or pattern of a piece of fabric runs up the roll (toward the cut edge). A "railroaded" piece has a pattern or nap that runs from one side of the fabric to the other. To fabric-conscious folks, we're talking from selvedge to selvedge. (And to you fabric-unconscious people, the selvedge is the woven edge on each side that keeps fabric from fraying.)

Pssst.... She needs to be left alone!

IMG_0001.JPG
Stephanie writes in her blog..

"I promise you that I love my family. Love them. Would stop a bullet for them. Challenge trains to push them to safety. I wouldn't trade any of them for any amount of treasure.

But.

If I don't get some alone time soon everybody's gonna be visiting me in the loony bin.

For the last ten days to two weeks, everybody has been sniping at everybody else in every single combination you can think of. Constantly. Spouse has been on vacation so he's been helping out enormously (thank you spouse!) but the non-stop warfare has worn me thin. That last little nerve has been scraped raw and everyone has broken out the tap shoes to dance on it."

Albeit sympathizing for Steph's plight, how about the blog being a book or movie plot.

With constantly evolving web development technologies, they realize the importance of being educated continually in the latest available technologies which ensures that clients receive only the best service available.

"There’s been a growing trend in the last few years. Maybe you’ve noticed it in your website’s dwindling traffic or the increased difficulty you’ve had making the front page of Google. Maybe you’ve bought ads online for the first time or resigned yourself to the conclusion that you’re stuck with traditional advertising."

But what if something else is at play? What if all your customers have just… disappeared?

Pssst.... Can you keep a secret . . ? Why we really need to gossip.

mzl.ixpeqrmj.320x480-75
If you've just divulged a gossipy titbit to a female friend then set your stopwatch: you've got exactly 32 minutes before she spills the beans.

That's the findings of the skincare line Simple who recently conducted a survey of 3,000 British women to see how long they could keep a secret.

One-in-10 of women surveyed admitted to being completely unable to keep a secret -- no matter how confidential the information shared. And 85 percent said they relished having a good gossip.
"Gossip was also used as a means of punishing misbehavior," says Locke. "In bands of hunter-gatherers, those who failed to honor their family obligations, hoarded food, or acted like a 'big shot' were identified and ostracized through gossip."
Sharing secrets among friends can also build stronger bonds, allowing gossipers to build alliances over a secret that may make everyone feel better about their own lives.

Pssst.... It's called the nap.

paulo+buffa+velvet+sofa+jessgrahamvintag
Did you know?

The term "nap" as it applies to fabric generally refers to the direction in which the open ends of the fibers naturally lie, such as in a velvet piece. Normally, the fabric nap would be in the down direction. However, to achieve a darker, richer color, sometimes these fabrics are used with the nap in the up direction. This darker color is the result of the reduced reflection of light off the fibers.

Dana is a baby boomer who loves vintage modern design and the creative men & women behind it. Join her as she researches the iconic as well as the obscure, take an occasional look back at growing up in the mid-20th century and work with her daughter and son-in-law, who are sellers of vintage furnishings.

Pssst.... Tell the Turtle Soon

thumbnail.aspx
Jan Miesse is at it again with a great narrative that illustrates the power of taking risks, or maybe not knowing that we can't...

"Deep within a forest a little turtle began to climb a tree. After hours of effort he reached the top, jumped into the air waving his front legs and crashed to the ground. After recovering, he slowly climbed the tree again, jumped, and fell to the ground.

The turtle tried again and again while a couple of birds sitting on a branch watched his sad efforts. Finally, the female bird turned to her mate.

“Dear,” she chirped, “I think it’s time to tell him he’s adopted.”

Pssst.... Who Gave You Permission to Whine?

Jan Miesse writes today al about whining.

"The T-shirt says, … And Your Whiny, Crybaby Opinion Would Be? … I have to laugh at that question. I’ve never asked it and really don’t want to know.

I’m sure I have whined. I am not proud of it. I can’t remember when I would have done such a thing – but I’m sure I have, at some point, probably, maybe! Whining is definitely something to decide NOT to remember.

Ok. Whine in your room with the door shut but please not to friends and family. Also included in the no-whine zone are service workers, attendants, servers, doormen, taxi-drivers, teachers and neighbors. Maybe now and then to your health care professional, but only if it’s genuine."
